Introduction to Prescribed Burning

Learn about fire ecology, fire behavior principles, and how to plan for and implement fire as a management tool in fire-adapted ecosystems. Spend time getting to know the tools used on prescribed fires, learn about the steps involved in preparing a burn unit, explore basic aspects of wildland fire suppression, and conduct a prescribed burn, weather permitting. Note:This course will not prepare participants to serve as a burn boss or conduct prescribed burns on their own.

This course now satisfies the field day requirement for the National Wildfire Coordinating Group  “Introduction to Wildland Fire” courses. Participants interested in receiving federal certification for s130 and s190 courses will need to complete the online portion prior to taking this workshop. Instructions for taking the online portion will be given at registration.

*Participants not interested in receiving certification do not need to complete the online course to take this workshop. This workshop is open to landowners, students, professionals and anyone else interested in learning more about prescribed fire.
