Learn About Your Land – Monroe County

September 14, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

$30

Learn About Your Land is a UW-Madison Extension Forestry program intended for Wisconsin woodland owners. The series of classes introduces landowners to forestry topics and local DNR foresters.  These classes will be in-person at the Tomah Ranger Station and feature a DNR forester and wildlife biologist from Monroe County. All classes will run 1.5 hours with the last 30 minutes reserved for YOUR QUESTIONS.

Session 1: Invasive Plant Identification and Control – Tuesday, August 31, 6:30-8 PM CT

Do you know what non-native, invasive plants look like? Do you have invasive plants and want to learn how to control them? If so, then this class is for you. We will describe the most problematic invasive plants for woodlands in Wisconsin and recommend ways to control them.

Session 2: Wildlife and Woodland Management – Tuesday, September 7, 6:30-8 PM CT

Learn to enhance your woodlands to attract a variety of wildlife. This session will be led by a DNR wildlife biologist who will cover the four requirements to attract wildlife to your land—space, water, food, and shelter—as well as how you can manage your woods to improve the wildlife potential. Small changes can made a big difference!

Session 3: Introduction to Timber Harvesting and Sales – Tuesday, September 14, 6:30-8 PM CT

Join a DNR forester for an introduction to the steps and timeline involved in conducting a successful timber harvest, from deciding what to cut to the final closeout of your sale. Learn how to decide which, if any, trees should be selected and why. Topics will include guidance on selecting a logger, why a timber sale contract is important and the steps involved in conducting a harvest.

Pre-Registration is required.
Fees must be paid online via credit card by August 27 to attend the first week of classes.

Note: Extension is holding this event in accordance with guidance from the CDC, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, and UW–Madison.
