Silvopasture Walk

Take a pasture walk of a newly established silvopasture trial, hosted by the Lancaster Agricultural Research Station.

Silvopasture is the intentional, intensively managed integration of grazing with trees. Summer 2016 was the pilot season for a multi-year trial of silvopasture created by thinning existing woodlots on the research station. We will look at silvopasture and comparison plots and discuss preliminary observations of the value of silvopasture for animal welfare and managing heat stress, as well as potential environmental impacts and management challenges.
