Three Critical Traits of Trails
Get started with trail planning by thinking about these 3 things first!
Purpose: How will the trail be used? Who will be using it? Is it a means to a destination, or is it the destination?
Corridor: Explore your woods with a map (aerial view photo or topographic maps work well!). Make note of existing trails, obstacles, points of interest and waterways to help determine the trail’s course.
Design: With purpose and corridor in mind, start mapping the trail out! Use these design standards to help guide you.
