WI DNR now hiring LTE – Foresters and LTE – Forestry Specialists throughout Wisconsin!

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Forestry is recruiting to fill 3 Limited Term Employee (LTE) positions: a Forester position based out of Madison; a Forestry Specialist position stationed in La Crosse, Rhinelander, or Madison; and another Forestry Specialist stationed in either Spooner or Rhinelander Wisconsin. The deadline to apply is midnight, March 21st for the Forester and first Forestry Specialist position. The deadline for the second Forestry Specialist is midnight March 22nd.

Our LTE – Forester will work on a variety of forestry projects withing the Division of Forestry, Forest Ecology and Economics section. Their primary goal/responsibility will be to assist in setting up a field project evaluating harvest techniques in pine systems to mitigate wildfire hazard and meet various objectives (e.g., natural regeneration, brush control). This will include baseline stand measurements, helping to establish new silviculture methods, prescribed burning, coordinating with various stakeholders and setting up timber sales. All projects are diverse and highly collaborative and this position will be part of a research team. Work may include forest assessments, tree and plant identification, forest measurements, setting up stands for treatments/manipulation, chainsaw work, use of increment borers to collect tree age information, data organization and management, and report writing. The successful applicant should be in good physical condition and able to handle fieldwork in a variety of conditions. The position will be located at the WI DNR Science Operations Center on the east side of Madison, but will require extensive travel across Wisconsin. Start dates are negotiable. 

The Forestry Specialist positions are dual LTE appointments comprised of two 20-hour positions for an expected work schedule of 40 hours per week. Salary Information:

Forester: $19.00 – $25.00

Forestry Specialist: $20.26 – $25.32
