The 2022 Phenology Calendar is On Sale Now!
It’s officially fall, and the year is already coming to a close! The Aldo Leopold Foundation, a partner of My Wisconsin Woods, is excited to announce the 2022 edition of the ever-popular Phenology Calendar. Celebrate the new year while enjoying stunning photography and tracking phenological events each month with the 2022 Phenology Calendar: Growing Up Wild.
Phenology is the timing of seasonal events in nature, and this year has been full of enjoying the outdoors. Did you notice the first fireflies in May? Sunflowers blooming in July? From birds nesting to flowers blooming, interpreting phenological records will help you better understand the context of what is happening in your biotic community.
Dr. Stan Temple, Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Famer, will lead you through 2022 with introductory text and monthly sidebar panels explaining iconic phenological events each month.
In this year’s calendar, Dr. Temple guides your exploration in how plants and animals ensure that the timing of their breeding activities and the growth and survival of their offspring are optimized under changing environmental conditions. This can best be understood through the phenology of each species’ annual reproductive cycle.
Likewise, this year’s Growing Up Wild Phenology Calendar offers an opportunity to pass on a love for all things wild to your loved ones. What better way to teach kids about the biotic community than to observe all the plants and animals growing up around us? Phenology observations are an activity that the entire family can take part in, so make sure to get yourself and your loved ones out in nature to enjoy and observe, as the Leopold family once did!
Can’t wait to get your hands on the 2022 Phenology Calendar? Starting today, you can secure your calendar during the presale! After November 1, calendars will only be available while supplies last.
