October 19, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
  • This event has passed.

Mastering the basics of chainsaw safety is essential for woodland owners who want to be more active on their land. This course is certified through the Safety and Woods Worker (SAWW) training program and part of a four-level series designed to increase safety and efficiency of chainsaw use.

The hands-on training and close supervision in this course gives participants the opportunity and confidence to fell at least one tree. Level III focuses on estimating height and lean calculations, as well as wedge placement to prepare you to successfully and safely fell trees on your land. The information in this course applies to those involved with preparing prescribed fire breaks, removing snags, cutting firewood, or improving timber stands. Plan on spending the whole day in the field with instructors. This is an advanced course; levels 1 and 2 are prerequisites to attend.

Class limit: 10

Instructor: Nathan Stanford. Nathan has 18 years of chainsaw training experience serving as a certified trainer through SAWW and being a “C” certifier for the U.S. Forest Service.
