James Downes
DNR Service Forester
Bio
I grew up east of Ladysmith, Wisconsin and studied forest management at UW Stevens Point. In my free time you can find me hunting, fishing, or ATVing in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. Helping landowners overcome the first few steps on the path to sustainable forest management that also meets their property objectives is the most rewarding part of my job.
What I like about Douglas County: The vast tracts of land that are open to public recreation.

There are also many cooperating foresters who are able to assist you. Cooperating Foresters are consulting foresters or industrial foresters who voluntarily enter into a cooperative agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Consulting foresters are private-sector foresters who provide forestry services on a contract or fee basis and who represent the interests of private forest landowners.
